BQ-9000® INITIAL REGISTRATION PROCESS...
  1. Complete the Application
    1. Submit Quality System Documentation (i.e. quality manual, procedures or any other pertinent documentation)
    2. Pay $1,000 application fee and the $2,000 audit fee.  Auditor travel fees will be billed after the audit has occurred.
    3. Provide proof of EPA Registration (US biodiesel producers only)
  2. The NBAC staff reviews the application and application materials
    1. Applications considered administratively complete shall be accepted for processing and audit.
  3. An independent auditor is assigned and the auditor shall establish the audit schedule with the applicant.
    1. Desk audit to verify written compliance with BQ-9000 criteria
    2. On-site audit to verify compliance by auditor review of certain objective evidence.
    3. A desk audit will take place automatically when the quality documents are sent to the independent auditor by the NBAC, regardless of the implementation date of the quality system.
    4. The on-site registration audit will be scheduled directly between the applicant and the auditor.  However, the registration audit will not take place until the applicant’s quality system has been fully implanted and in use for at least six months.  A quality system is considered to be fully implemented when all elements of the quality system have been put into operation by the organization.  In addition, all issues identified during the desk audit must be resolved before the auditor will conduct the on-site audit.
    5. On-site registration audits involve an independent auditor spending approximately 1.5 days at the applicant’s facility meeting with management, reviewing procedures and records and observing the quality system at work.
    6. Any corrective actions must be addressed within 30 days.
  4. The Commission reviews the results of the audits and votes on the company’s status.
  5. If the applicant passes the audit, the Commission grants accreditation for a period of three years.
  6. Surveillance audits will then occur on an annual basis.
    1. The surveillance audit is a partial on-site audit repeated annually to verify the accredited company’s continued compliance with the requirements of BQ-9000 including changes in the Program Requirements since the last audit.
    2. The cost of the surveillance audit is $1,000 plus auditor travel fees.
